The Sims 3
The Sims Wiki's Featured Article for June 2009.
The Sims 3 keeps many of the innovations introduced by its predecessor, but adds several new features. The Sims 3 is the first game to feature an open-world concept: players are no longer limited to having a single lot loaded at a time, and Sims are able to move about and explore an entire town without triggering a loading screen. The Sims 3 features robust customization options through an expanded build mode and Create a Sim. The Sims 3 also introduces the Create a Style tool to the series, which allows players to change the patterns and colors of objects and clothing, and copy styles between different objects.
The Sims 3 replaces the points-based personality system of The Sims and The Sims 2 with a system based on unique traits. These traits influence a Sim's behavior and wishes, including their lifetime wish. Sim needs are also updated, with much of the functionality of these needs replaced or augmented by moodlets. Moodlets can have a positive, negative, or netural affect on a Sim's mood. Moodlets can be triggered by specific events, proximity to certain areas or objects, or by very low or very high motives.
The Sims 3 was released for Windows PCs and Mac OS on June 2, 2009. As of 2015, it has sold over 7 million copies, making it one of the best-selling PC games of all time. In addition to the base game, The Sims 3 features 11 optional expansion packs and nine stuff packs. The Sims 3 boasts a robust online store that sells downloadable content including new game objects and object sets, venues, and worlds. The game also has over three dozen free game updates that fix game bugs and add new content to the game.
Description EditThe freedom of The Sims 3 will inspire you with endless creative possibilities and amuse you with unexpected moments of surprise and mischief! Create over a million unique Sims and control their lives. Customize everything from their appearances, to their personalities and even the home of their dreams. Then, send your Sims out to explore new locations around town and to meet other Sims in the neighborhood. Go online for exclusive extra game content and robust online features including $10 worth of free SimPoints and a bonus downloadable town. With all-new quick challenges and rewarding game play, The Sims 3 gives you the freedom to choose whether (or not!) to fulfill your Sims’ destinies and make their wishes come true.NeighborhoodEdit
The neighborhood that ships with the game, Sunset Valley,[2] is a beautiful setting with 97 lots full of characters. The description of this neighborhood reveals that The Sims 3 is indeed a prequel to The Sims and The Sims 2 (Although The Sims 3 is the successor to both games), as Sunset Valley was apparently built before Pleasantview, and founded by the Goth family.
A second neighborhood named Riverview[3] is available as a free download in The Sims 3 Store when the game is registered.[4]
The Sims 3: World Adventures introduced three sub-neighborhoods, Champs Les Sims, Shang Simla and Al Simhara. Each sub-neighborhood is a unique, exotic environment that is as large as a regular neighborhood. The Sims 3: Ambitions and The Sims 3 Deluxe compilation pack come with Twinbrook. The Sims 3: Late Night comes with the neighborhood Bridgeport. The Sims 3: Pets and The Sims 3 Plus Pets compilation pack comes with Appaloosa Plains. The Sims 3: Showtime comes with Starlight Shores. The Sims 3: Supernatural comes with Moonlight Falls. The Sims 3: University Life introduced a fourth sub-neighborhood named Sims University, where Young Adult or older Sims can go to college. The Sims 3: Island Paradise comes with Isla Paradiso. The Sims 3: Into the Future introduced a fifth sub-neighborhood named Oasis Landing.
Aside from Riverview, more downloadable neighborhoods are available for sale from The Sims 3 Store. Barnacle Bay, a pirate-themed neighborhood, costs 2,000 SimPoints. Hidden Springs is a mountainous downloadable neighborhood on The Sims 3 website and costs 2,250 SimPoints. Sunlit Tides is a group of islands which has two versions: standard version costing 2,450 SimPoints and gold costing 4,350. Lunar Lakes is a neighborhood located on a foreign planet and costs 2,200 SimPoints. Lucky Palms, a desert-themed neighborhood, has two versions: standard and gold; the standard version costs 2,450 SimPoints, while the gold version costs 4,350. In December 2012, Monte Vista was available to download from The Sims 3 Store, and only came in a standard version. In February 2013, Aurora Skies was released to download from The Sims 3 Store. The standard version costs 2,450 SimPoints while the gold version costs 3,900 SimPoints. Dragon Valley, a medieval themed world, was released costing $20 for the standard version, and $30 for the gold version. In September 2013, a Gothic themed world, called Midnight Hollow costs 2,450 SimPoints for the standard and 4,350 for the gold. Roaring Heights featured a 1920s to 1940s world, costing $20 for the standard and $35 for the gold.
A new neighborhood, Adventureland is shipped with patch 69. It is based on the base game neighborhood Sunset Valley, sharing the same description and image.
Neighborhood Continuity Edit
'Before Pleasantview, there was Sunset Valley, founded by the Goths and built up by the Landgraabs to be a quiet, peaceful town. But when the Altos arrive with uptown ideals, will the townsfolk feel the need to choose sides?'
Sunset Valley, Riverview, and Twinbrook all take place before the events of The Sims (although at different times). Barnacle Bay is set after the events of The Sims 2. Although all other neighborhoods are not explicitly stated, they can be considered to take place before the events of The Sims.
In an interview with producer Ben Bell and members from the EA Forum in the UK it's written 'He said that Sunset Valley itself is set before the neighborhood we see in The Sims, as if it's a prequel to the story we already know. He said the Goths[5] are in the town, as their younger selves obviously as well as other familiar names and faces. Lots of new characters too.'[6]
Agnes Crumplebottom does make an appearance as her younger self in Sunset Valley and players soon discover that the source of her crabbiness is due to the death of her husband who features as a ghost.[7] Other families in Sunset Valley are the Landgraabs which are a very affluent family; the new Alto family, the Keaton family, the Wolff family, the Hart family, the Ursine family, as well as many others.
Open Neighborhood Edit
According to the Games for Windows magazine, 'The biggest change to The Sims 3 is that it takes place in a wide-open, constantly changing neighborhood — a much bigger sandbox.' It was confirmed that the game would be an open neighborhood by the official website. The neighborhood is as such, and its neighborhood can be compared in vastness to the ones featured in other titles like Grand Theft Auto, Bully, Need For Speed Carbon and Burnout Paradise.
The loading of lots during play and lot-based playing has been eliminated. Now every action takes place in a seamless living neighborhood. There are lots, parks, shops and other places Sims like to explore. All Sims, and their Sim friends and family are in this neighborhood. They can dine, visit, shop, and relax. Map tags help players navigate the neighborhood, find interesting places to visit, and locate their Sims.
Also, on the map, icons for buildings are different colors. Red icons are career buildings, royal blue icons are public places, light blue icons are for the location of Sims in the active household, orange icons are for other Sims' homes that the selected Sims knows, and green is the active household's house.
There are also new public events in The Sims 3, such as music concerts, movie premieres, pool parties, barbecues, sporting events, outdoor fishing, and the most civic-minded public activity in a Sims game to date, attending a public protest at the City Hall, where Sims can voice their discontent with the administration's legal mumbo jumbo by angrily shouting their own nonsensical Simlish mumbo jumbo.[10]
When a child or teen Sim finishes school, there's a chance he or she may bring a friend home; there's also a chance the child or teen Sim may get invited over to a friend's house. The player has the option to accept or decline. Accepting, the player can then follow the Sim to their friend's house. Depending on how high their relationship is, the Sim can 'Request to Sleep Over'. If the friend accepts, they'll say, 'Sure, make yourself at home'.
EA released a Create-a-World tool in December 2009, so players can create new neighborhoods for their Sims to live in.
Buy Mode Edit
Build Mode Edit
Creatures Edit
Main article: Life state
Live Mode Edit
The player has the ability to control one family at a time and can easily switch from one family to another. All the Sims of each city evolve together, but it is possible to stop the aging and the story progression so the Sims that the player doesn't control won't get married or evolve. Aging and story progression are different settings, and can be set independently. Both options affect the entire city and not an individual family.
Free will can still be turned on and off, but also now has varying levels of High, Medium, Low, and Off. This setting is a game-wide setting rather than a save-specific setting. Currently, free will in The Sims 3 affects the entire city, not only the family the player is playing, which can cause non-player Sims, such as neighbors, to be passive. This was fixed with patches.[13]
The player can choose the length of a Sims life, from 25 Sim days (brief) to 960 Sim days (epic), and can also extend their life by eating a life fruit, a growable garden item. All Sims within the city will age according to the player's settings.
Difficulty Levels Edit
Families are rated by how difficult they are to play. Difficulty is based on Sim relations, traits, number of family members, and children. There are six levels of difficulty.[14]
Interactions with Other Sims Edit
As Sims interact with other Sims, they learn about them. The opinion the Sim has with the Sim they are currently interacting with and their traits are displayed on the screen. The type of relationship a Sim has with another is displayed in the relationship panel. Each Sim has different interactions based on their traits.[15]
Sims Edit
Improvements to Sims include more customization options, a trait system that creates unique personalities, Sims that take care of themselves, and wishes that allow the player to set short- and long-term goals.
Create a Sim Edit
Create a Sim now has more customizable options for Sims than the CAS in The Sims 2. The player now has a larger selection of body types for Sims, and are able to create different hair styles for every Sim. The player is now able to pick their Sim's shoes.
There are a total of 22 hairstyles for female Sims and 17 hairstyles for male Sims. There are a variety of hats and hair accessories that the player can use, but they all come with set hairstyles. Each of the hats and accessories can also have their colors and textures altered. Hairstyles can be chosen separately for each outfit.
Compared to previous games in the series, a lot more things can be modified. It is possible to just change the nose, for example, and it is possible to use the 'dot' system to go into more depth, i.e. change nostril definition, nose tip scale, bridge height, etc.
Accessories can also be added (gloves, socks, eyeglasses, bracelets, earrings, shoes, watches..) and customized with Create a Style tool. There are more styles for hair than ever before. Changing hair/clothing/face is easy, as all can be customized. The player cannot add layers when customizing clothing, but if the clothes already have layers then the colors and textures for each layer can be altered. The player can also click on any part of the Sim and the Create a Sim tool takes them directly to the right menu for editing whatever is selected. There is an eyelash length slider bar. Socks and shoes are also fully customizable.
The player can choose the Sim's full name, age, gender, skin tone, weight and muscle tone.
There are six possible skintones but only three of the six are realistic. The other three are green, red, and blue. There is a slider so the player can edit how light or dark the skintone is. For example, they can make a light green Sim with a dark green mother and a light skinned father.
Body modifiers also use sliders that adjust weight from thin to obese and muscle size from flabby to muscular. With patch 1.17.60, sliders for muscle definition and breast size (female only) were added. Height still cannot be changed (due to conflicts with animation).
Players can now create twins (triplets, quadruplets, etc.) in Create a Sim using this button.[16]
Five personality traits can be chosen for each Young Adult Sim and above, with the chance to change them with a Lifetime Happiness reward. (Younger Sims have fewer traits. A teen has 4 traits, kids have 3 traits, and toddlers have 2 traits. Some traits are not available for younger ages. For example, toddlers can't be Flirty.[17] One Lifetime Wish is also chosen. In CAS, only young adults, adults, and elders can choose a lifetime wish, but in the game, children and teens can also choose to pursue a certain lifetime wish early.
Players are also able to choose from three types of voices and a slider to choose the pitch of a Sim's voice.[14]
Ages Edit
Age types of Sims within the game are baby, toddler, child, teenager, young adult (default age). Adult (middle age) and elder. The lifespan of a Sim can also be edited, making it any number of days between 25 and 960.
Needs Edit
Main article: Motive
Sims in The Sims 3 have six needs: hunger, bladder, fun, hygiene, energy, and social, omitting comfort and environment, two motives found in The Sims 1 & 2.[18] (Though their function is replaced by certain moodlets.)
Sims are able to take care of themselves, allowing the player to concentrate on what happens in their lives rather than balancing their needs. Sims now have wishes which can be fulfilled or ignored, and these often correspond with their needs (for example, a Sim may develop a wish to 'Order Pizza' if they are hungry).
Pregnancy EditPregnancy in The Sims 3 is similar to pregnancy in The Sims 2. Pregnant Sims experience the same belly expansion, though in The Sims 3 the expansion is gradual. Sims can now read books about pregnancy and get medical advice at the hospital. Sims can also announce they're pregnant to their husband/lover, family, friends, and just about any person they meet. A Sim relatively high in the Medical career track can also give the pregnant Sim some medical advice and determine the gender of the baby. Pregnancy lasts 3 days and during that time the Sim will have backache moodlets, cravings, and in the earlier days, morning sickness. They also have a positive 'Pregnant' moodlet throughout the pregnancy. When the day comes, a message box will alert the player that the baby is on its way. Wherever the pregnant Sim is, she will have contractions. The player can have another member of the family drive the to-be mother to the hospital, or tell her to go on her own, (the father of the baby will join the mother at the hospital separately, after she has entered it, and this applies for if the father is in the active household ornot). After a few Sim hours the Sim will emerge from the hospital with a little bundle of joy. Boys are wrapped in blue blankets, while girls are wrapped in pink ones. If your Sim gave birth at the hospital and had twins, each parent will carry one; if she has triplets, the mother will come out with a baby basket and remove the babies when she gets home (the basket will disappear). Depending on how the pregnancy went, the player can get to choose one of 2 traits, both, or none. After birth, the Sim gets an 'It's a Boy!', 'It's a Girl!', 'It's Twins!' or 'It's Triplets!' positive moodlet which lasts for 2 days.
Both young adult and adult women can get pregnant, but young adults are more fertile. Histologia di fiore pdf descargar. Sims can give birth at home or in the hospital.
There is a possibility that a Sim will have twins or triplets. There are higher chances if the Sim has the 'Fertility Treatment' Lifetime Reward or watched the kids channel on TV frequently or listened to kids music. Triplets, when born in the hospital, are carried out in a large basket by their mother/father.
Traits Edit
Main article: Trait (The Sims 3)
Traits are like segments of a whole personality that the player can assign to their Sims. They can combine to create increasingly complex personalities. There are 63 traits to choose from in the base game, with Expansion packs adding more, plus some hidden traits which can be passed on to the offspring of service Sims (firefighters, police officers, etc.) or from Sims in certain careers (such as the Criminal career). When the player assigns Traits to a Sim, that Sim will look and act the part. Toddlers, Children and Teens get a new trait at their birthday. If children had a good childhood, then the player can choose a trait. If not, the game will give them a random one, which is usually negative. They’ll have unique behaviors, preferences and advantages. Some traits give special abilities. They can be useful towards skill improvement (Artistic and Athletic traits, for example) and special interactions (Childish Sims can play with toys. Mooch Sims can ask for food.)[19]
Young adults and up have 5 traits, teens have 4 traits, children have 3 traits, toddlers and babies have 2 traits. With University Life expansion pack, Sims might be able to earn additional 6th and 7th traits by graduating from the university or reaching level 8 of a social group. The fewer traits a Sim has, the less complex that Sim's personality will be. For example, giving a Sim the Kleptomaniac trait only will result in him constantly stealing while giving a Sim 5 traits will result in more balance. A Sim can have any combination of traits as long as they do not contradict each other.[17] For example, a Sim cannot be both 'Good' and 'Evil'.
Traits are genetic and what occurs during pregnancy can affect what traits are passed on. The parents also help pick the traits. For example, bad parents don't get to pick their own traits and will have randomly assigned ones that are generally unfavorable. NPCs can also pass on secret traits that only their children will get.
The Lifetime Reward 'Midlife Crisis', costing 20,000 Lifetime Rewards points, allows the player to choose a Sim's traits again.
Wishes Edit
Wishes are exclusive to The Sims 3 and provide the player with a wide selection of requests that keep their Sims happy as well as working towards some short and long-term goals and rewards. Wishes come from anywhere and everywhere, based on the Sims’ Traits, their job, their skills, their friends or coworkers, where they are in town, or what they might be doing. The player can promise to help their Sims with a wish or throw it away. Satisfying these basic tasks will unlock minor rewards and increase the Sim's overall morale with a 'moodlet'—a minor condition that contributes to the characters' overall mood. Evil Sim just stole candy from a baby? This is considered a positive moodlet for this Sim. Having to listen to the annoying sound of the crying baby? This is considered a negative moodlet. Working toward a Lifetime Wish will win the Sim 'Lifetime Happiness Points' that can be spent on extremely powerful items, including the teleporter[10]
The player is now free to pick or ignore their Sims’ wishes without fear of some sort of mental breakdown. Instead, they really get to focus on telling the story and making decisions; the Sim just makes suggestions along the way.[20]
Lifetime Rewards Edit
Main article: Lifetime reward
Points gained from wishes may be spent on rewards, either in the form of an object or a permanent change in the Sim. For example, with 20,000 points the player can choose to buy the lifetime reward 'Mid-Life Crisis' for their Sim, which allows them to pick their traits again. Skills EditSkills have been expanded on from previous versions adding two skills that were Talent Badges in The Sims 2 (fishing and gardening), and two that were hidden skills (writing and painting), plus 18 more skills added by various expansion packs. Four additional skills were also introduced from The Sims 3 Store and they include Artisan, Dancing, Gambling, and Violin. They still have 10 levels of proficiency with the exception of collecting.
Sims with high levels in a skill will unlock new abilities. For example, having a high level of logic allows a Sim to tutor other Sims, cooking unlocks recipes, fishing unlocks bigger fish, etc.[17]
Sims get a 'Power Study' moodlet if they study at the Library, which helps with skill-building.[10] Some skills have a series of books, many of which can be found at the library. Reading these books increases the Sim's skill level for the skill in question. For example, reading a book about charisma will increase the Sim's level in charisma.
The player does not see the skill in the interface until they unlock the first point, which can be done by attending a class or reading a book about the skill. The player can then view the skill journal. The skill journal displays statistics and information about challenges, for example, the Athletic skill journal displays the number of hours of cardio workout, hours of strength workout, and distance jogged. The skill journal will display other information depending on the skill. For instance Cooking will display the recipes learned and the quality at which the Sim can produce that meal. The statistics and challenges for Collecting are available in the skill journal.
Also when Sims reach level 10 of a skill, they will get a certificate in the mail to display on a wall or sell for 1000 Simoleons.
Careers Edit
Main article: Career
Many of the careers from The Sims 2, such as the Law Enforcement and Professional Sports tracks, are in The Sims 3. Of course, there are also some new ones. Sims can look for these jobs in the newspaper or apply right at the building where they’d like to work. (Every career has a building in the neighborhood.) Sims are also able to make a living at home selling paintings, writing novels, or growing fruit and vegetables. To get some extra cash on the side if the Sim also has some cash to spare, they can buy out businesses and receive a percentage of the profits they earn. If Sims are less inclined towards pursuing a full-time career or are too busy skill-building, etc., they can get part-time jobs at certain career locations within the town. (Part-time jobs have a lower pay than full-time jobs and do not give career opportunities.) Part-time jobs are also available for teen Sims.
Advancing in a career still depends on mood and skills, but also relationships with colleagues/boss and even certain goals that have to be fulfilled. The player can decide how hard they work while on the job. The option to work hard will increase the Sim's performance faster at the expense of their mood. Taking work home, schmoozing the boss, reading medical journals, or completing opportunities also have an impact on a Sim's job performance. Chance cards and at-work events can still cause the Sim to lose their job, but may actually help them get a better job in another career track. Reaching the top of a career doesn't mean they're done, either. If a Sim keeps excelling at their duties, they can rake in extra Simoleons through additional raises.[21]
A new feature The Sims 3 offers is branching careers, which allows Sims to choose a certain path in their career (for example, a Sim in the Music career can eventually choose to specialize in Symphonic music or Rock).
The Sims 3: Ambitions introduces professions, careers that allow the player direct control over their Sims’ work and how they spend their days, and the ability for Sims to register at City Hall as self-employed in a skill career.
Features added with patches EditGame Update 1.5/1.6 on 11/16/09 introduced several features from World Adventures such as the new basement tool that allows players to build basements up to 4 levels deep under a lot, new Pagoda style roofs, and the ability to place decorations on roofs. Build Mode added the ability to build stages, fountains with spurts, half-walls, make curved swimming pools with curves being adjustable in size and gave players the ability to move wall hangings, photographs and paintings up and down walls. Urinals were also made available in Buy Mode.

A free patch for The Sims 3 was released around the same time as Supernatural. It introduced population controls to the Options Menu with the ability to control the appearance of Celebrities and Vampires from Late Night, stray pets and wild horses from Pets, as well as Werewolves, Witches, and Fairies in Supernatural. It added new decorative objects to Build and Buy Mode such as drainpipes, wall patterns, roof cornices, a bookcase, and neighborhood rock objects in Edit Town. Create-A-Sim also gained 6 new skin tones and 5 new Looks sliders (Ear Orbit, Ear Point, Jaw Underbite, Brow Definition, Nostril Rotate). Fangs and bite marks could also be applied to Sims in the Accessories tab. Online gift giving was also introduced and implemented within gameplay.

In Create-A-Sim, an alien skin tone was added, the ability to create Alien Eyes and Alien Ears in the Looks section and the option to make Sims fully bald and have no eyebrows.

It also added objects, such as a spiral staircase and a ladder.

Community features Edit
Producers claim that The Sims 3 Exchange makes it easier to create and share custom creations.[22]
Features:
The Sims 3 Store Edit
The Sims 3 Store launched at the same time as The Sims 3 and offers exclusive content that can only be found at The Sims 3 store. The Sims 3 Store has ongoing, regular releases of new content that is only available through The Store.[3] When the player purchases an item from The Store, it automatically gets added into their game Launcher when “Download Now” is clicked. From the game Launcher, the player can then install the item into their game with a single click. With another recent game update, the player can purchase items inside of the game via the Store's button.
SimPoints Edit
SimPoints are the virtual currency used on The Sims 3 Store. Players may buy SimPoints in bundles of 500, 1000 or 2000 SimPoints using international credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, national credit cards including Carte Bleu, Carte Si, Dankort, Maestro, Solo and Delta, cash cards (North America), or PayPal. The Sims 3 Store accepts a number of currencies for the purchase of SimPoints including USD, GBP, EUR, BRL, SEK, DKK, AUD, NZD and ZAR. With SimPoints players can buy in-game items from The Sims 3 Store.[3]
Registering the game online gives the player $10 (£6) worth of SimPoints to start customizing their game.
World Adventures, Plus Late Night and Plus Generations also include a $10 card worth 1,000 SimPoints.
The Leak EditThe Sims 3launcher notifies the user if the user has an unauthorized copy of The Sims 3.
On May 19, 2009, about 2 weeks before the release, a pre-release version of The Sims 3 was leaked onto the internet. The game was essentially as feature-complete as with the final retail build, but it was, according to EA, 'buggy' and 'pre-final', with certain features missing and is considered by the developers to be unstable. It was previously stated that players who own the leaked version of The Sims 3 would not be able to accessThe Sims 3 Store and would not be able to buy items from it.
It is possible to report illegal copies of the game to EA.
Expansion Packs EditSims 3 How To Change The Time

There have been 9 stuff packs released by Maxis for The Sims 3 between 2010 and 2013.
Downloadable Worlds Edit
Maxis also has a development team dedicated to creating premium neighborhoods for The Sims 3 available on The Sims 3 Store and in retail stores. There have been 11 worlds released by Maxis.
Editions Edit
The Sims 3 Collector's Edition was a limited release of The Sims 3. In addition to the game itself, it also included:
The Sims 3 Collector's Edition was replaced by The Sims 3 Holiday Collector's Edition, which offered bonus holiday content during the 2009 holiday season.
DevelopmentEdit
Its creation was confirmed on November 2, 2006, by EA chief financial officer Warren Jenson who said, 'Yes, there's a Sims 3 in development and it's likely to be a fiscal '09 title.' In July 2007 AI researcher Richard Evans, who is part of the TS3 team, gave a talk at the annual AIIDE (Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment) conference in California, notes from which can be read here. The title was to be released on February 20, 2009 according to the official The Sims 3 website, but was delayed worldwide to June 2, 2009.[23]Electronic Arts cites the reason for the delay was to 'create awareness for The Sims 3'.
Before it was delayed, it was originally to be released only on Windows. After the delay, it was made available on both Windows (Windows 98-10) and Mac OS X, which marks the first time The Sims was released on both platforms simultaneously (EA only made the Windows version of The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories up to this point; Mac versions were developed by Aspyr Media).
In The Sims 2: FreeTime, a computer is delivered by Mr. Rod Humble to every household that a player plays. On it, Sims can play The Sims 3 game. A video of this can be seen on YouTube. It shows something towards a continuous, panning neighborhood, diagonal placings for objects, better lighting systems, and the ability to change shoes in the CAS, an ability previously limited to only console versions of The Sims. The preview only lasts about one minute, and has poor resolution.

In the Sims franchise of games by Electronic Arts, it's easy to adopt children to add to your current simulated families. However, sometimes your adopted child doesn't look like your family. Changing the color of your adopted Sim's skin doesn't take very much time. In 'Sims 3,' this same process allows you to change anything you want about any of your Sims, adopted or otherwise.

Type in 'Testingcheatsenabled true' exactly how it is quoted. Press the 'Enter' key after doing this. This immediately puts you in testing mode, which gives you the highest level of power over the game, environment and Sims.
Hold down the 'Shift' key while clicking your adopted Sim in live mode. This opens up a series of menus around the Sim's body.
Select the 'edit Sim' option from the menu. This opens the same menu that you are brought to upon creating your first Sim in the beginning of the game, only with your adopted Sim's face. Use the slider to adjust the Sim's skin color and then save the changes before returning to live mode.

While playing the game, press [Ctrl] + [Shift] + C to display the console window. Then, type one of the following codes and press [Enter] to activate the corresponding cheat function:
Note 1: This code allows additional cheat codes to be used and unlocks various testing options, as described below.
Note 2: This code must be enabled before entering Create-A-Sim mode.
Note 3: This code allows you to delete objects that normally cannot be removed (for example, Sims, mailbox, garbage can). However, you cannot get those objects back. Also, when the code is used on a Sim with the 'good' trait, a halo will appear on their head when you exit Buy/Build mode.
Note 4: 'Llamas' are the triangular warning signs that appear with some messages.

While the 'testingCheatsenabled true' code is enabled on the 'Select Family' screen before loading a family, hold [Ctrl] and click just below the box in the lifetime happiness to add 500 to lifetime happiness. You can also drag the needs bars up or down as desired. When viewing your Sims' relationships, you can drag the bars on that screen either way.
While the 'testingCheatsenabled true' code is enabled, hold [Ctrl] and click a Moodlet in the Moodlet panel to remove it. Note: If it is motive-induced, the bar related to the negative Moodlet will be completely filled.
To max out Moodlets and keep them that way, enable the 'testingCheatsenabled true' code. Then, hold [Shift] and click your Sim's mailbox. Select 'Make all happy', and click the mailbox again, then select 'Make needs static'.
While the 'testingCheatsenabled true' code is enabled, hold [Ctrl] and drag the Mouse left or right to raise or lower your Sim's current motive as well as raise or lower relationships.
Watching your own videos on the TV
Use the following trick to watch your own videos on the Sim television. Place the video you want into the '/My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 3/Movies/Broadcast/[television station]' folder. Turn on the television in the game, and you can watch it. The video must be in .AVI format, with a resolution no larger than 128x128 pixels, and frame rate not greater than 15 frames per second.
Listening to your own music on the radio
Place the desired .MP3 files in the '/My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 3/Music/[radio station]' folder. Start the game, go to 'Options' menu, select 'Music Settings', then choose radio station. Select which songs you want the radio to play.
Easy money
Start writing novels on your computer. Write fiction novels as they take the least amount of time. They will not bring you too much Simoleons. When you write, your skill will automatically advance. If your skill is high enough, you will be able to write more novel types/genres. The most money can be made from 'Romance Novels'. You will get royalties for six weeks once you finish a book. With the 'Writing' skill maxed out, you can make approximately 40,000 Simoleons every week, which is more than the 34,800 Simoleons you can get by purchasing all neighborhood businesses, and takes less time to achieve. In three game weeks you should have a very high speed writing, 9 or 10 novels as best sellers, and 100,000 Simoleons.
Saving money
No matter how many times you use an object, if you sell it the same day you got it you can get all your money back. If your Sim is poor and needs body points or something else, buy a body machine and keep selling it back to get a refund of all your money.
Easy Cooking, Fishing, and Gardening skills
This trick requires a TV with a Cooking, Fishing, or Gardening channel and a video game system. Have a Sim sit down and watch television. Switch the TV over to one of the previously mentioned channels so that the Sim can start earning his or her skill point. Then, have a second Sim go over and start playing video games. Notice that although the TV is displaying video games, the first Sim still has the skill meter above their head. Allow this Sim to sit there for as long as they please until they decide to do another activity of their own. After that, the skill meter should stay above their head until you start another Cooking, Fishing, or Gardening skill activity. As an added bonus, you can train two skill points at once. For example, work out and both the Athletic and Cooking skills will continue to rise. If you keep repeating the steps until each skill channel has been viewed, the Sim will keep learning the three skills as he or she goes on about their daily life, and four when doing skill activities.

Free bookcase skills
Buy a bookcase, then have your Sim begin to study. Interrupt the action so that the book is placed on the ground. Sell the bookcase. The book can now do everything the bookcase could have done for free.
Increasing chance to have baby boys
Have a pregnant female Sim eat apples to increase the chance of having a boy.
Increasing chance to have baby girls
Have a pregnant female Sim eat watermelons to increase the chance of having a girl.
Increasing chance for multiple babies
To increase the chance of having twins or triplets, have one or both parents have the lifetime reward of Fertility Treatment.
Ghost baby
Set one of your female Sim's traits to Kleptomaniac. Go to the graveyard, and have the Sim steal male remains. On the second day after putting the male remains in your home, a ghost will appear at 11:00 p.m. and disappear at 4:00 a.m. It will appear every other day. Socialize with the ghost every night it appears. When you become best friends with the ghost, it will begin appearing every night. Get the 'Fertility' reward. Confess your attraction to the ghost. Ask to snuggle on the bed, and kiss him. Try for a baby every night until you start throwing up. You will now have a ghost baby that you can control.
Ghosts in your house
Go to the graveyard, click on all the tombstones, and take all possible tombstones. Return to your house, and place them somewhere in your backyard. You now have a 70% chance of a ghost or two, or even a whole party of ghosts visiting your house each night. To improve your chances, write in the epitaph 'Here Lies [Sim's name], The One Who Returns'.
Making friends
Change Time Yahoo
Buy a guitar. Play it to learn how to play guitar. Keep playing until you reach 5/10 level, which gives you the ability to 'Play For Tips'. When you have that ability, go to the park with the guitar in your inventory. When you are in the park, click the guitar in your inventory, and select 'Play For Tips'. People watching you will become your friends if you keep playing. The higher your guitar skill, the faster they will become friends with you.
Disable aging
Instead of using a cheat code to toggle 'aging on' and 'aging off' like in The Sims 2, you can de-activate the age in 'Game Options' under 'Options'. When you uncheck the box next to 'Aging', your Sims will no longer become older. You can also slow aging down in this menu by setting the 'Lifetime' bar. It can be set from 25 days to 960 days.
Quickly advance age
Use the following trick to change your Sim's age (toddler, child, teen, etc.) quickly. Buy a birthday cake from the grocery store, and place it somewhere on your lot. Click the cake, and select 'Have Birthday'. Then, choose the Sim to be aged. This is a good method to get past the baby stage.
Avoiding death
Go to Pleasant Rest Graveyard. Near the gate is a bush called 'Death Flower Bush'. Harvest the flower from it, and keep it in your Sim's inventory. If you die, that Sim will give the flower to the Grim Reaper and be resurrected. Although the flower will not reappear there again, if your Sim has Level 7 Gardening, they can plant the 'Unknown Special Seeds' found in the graveyard and some other places that have a chance to grow as a Death Flower. Note: Having the Green Thumb trait to revive the plant may help.
Changing your name
To easily change your name, go to the map, and find City Hall. It should give you an option to change your name during the day between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
New clothes
To get new clothes, you first have to buy a dresser from 'Buy Options'. Once there, click 'Plan Outfit'. You can put a total of three different clothes for each type (formal, every day, athletic, etc.).
Learning all guitar songs from books
Have your Sim reach Guitar skill level 5. Have a level 5 book in their inventory, click the guitar, then select 'New Song' to learn it. After reaching Guitar skill level 6, do the same thing with a level 6 book. Repeat the process until the Sim reaches Guitar skill level 10, and they will know all songs that were taught.
Creating brilliant paintings or masterpieces
Create a stylized still life after it is unlocked. Choose 'Genius', and make it in the largest possible frame. You will now have a much better chance of getting a brilliant painting or masterpiece.
Building a basement
Put down staircases on a new lot to lower the terrain. Go to the bottom of the first one, and miss out one tile, then put down another staircase. Repeat this again to have three staircases. Delete the staircases. Use the 'Level Terrain' tool to level the terrain from the lowest tile. Set it as big or small as desired. Using the 'Straight Line Wall' tool, build walls around this hole so there are walls pressed up against hills. Build the room above so it covers the entire basement. Cover around the house with the 'Foundation' tool; all the slopes should be covered up. Place one tile in the top floor, then create a staircase leading down to the basement. Make two or more foundation blocks at the front of the house, and place a staircase leading up them.
Duck Time moodlet
Buy the Ducksworth of Bathington, and place it in your bathtub. When a Sim takes a bath, they will get the Duck Time moodlet which results in a +15 boost for four hours.
Getting rid of dirty dishes
Drag an empty plate into a Sim's inventory, then drag it to sell. You will not get any money, but if your Sim does not have a dish washer, it is a quick and efficient way to get rid of dirty dishes.
Strange faces
There is a glitch in Create-A-Sim mode that allows to you to make very strange faces. Go to the face designing area. Select a face part such as the eyes, and max out all the sliders one way or the other. Then, go to a different face part, and select one of the predesigned parts. Return to the eyes. The sliders will have reset to the middle, but the eyes will still look the same. This works for all of the face adjusting tabs. You can then continue to max out the size of the eyes and repeat. You can make eyes the size of dinner plates, very long cheekbones, huge noses, and more.
Hording pizza
Have a Sim call for pizza. When the pizza delivery man arrives, do not accept the pizza. The delivery man will eventually leave the pizza on the front porch, and it will never get stale. You can stack as many pizzas there as you want. If your Sims get hungry, just tell them to get a pizza from the front porch.
EA game references
When you have the video game system and your Sims play it, zoom in on the TV to see that the games they are playing are various Electronic Arts titles.
Spore reference
Have a Sim reach the top painting level to have the ability to create masterpieces. One of the paintings that can be created is that of a creature from Spore.
Time is a feature of all The Sims games except The Sims Social. In general, there is a 12 or 24 hour clock, three speed settings (Normal, Fast and Ultra), and a Pause button which stops the clock. Some games allow the player to switch between the 12-hour and 24-hour clock.
The SimsEdit
In The Sims, time is fairly simple. Bills come every three days, but that is the only cycle; there are no days of the week. Sims go to work or school every day, unless the player prevents them from going. One Sim minute is approximately one real life second, and the player can speed up time to skip through lengthy interactions or to quickly pass long stretches of time. The game will automatically switch to Ultra speed when there are no controllable Sims on the lot, or when all Sims on the lot are asleep.
Time only passes on a residential lot when it is being played, so each household has its own time. When Sims visit a community lot, time on their home lot stops, so Sims can spend hours or even days on community lots and return home shortly after they left.
Inviting Sims at or after midnight will always cause them to refuse regardless of relationship level; the exception to this is The Urbz: Sims in the City.
In The Sims for consoles and Free Play mode in The Sims Bustin' Out, time works the same as in The Sims. However, when playing Bustin' Out in Bust Out mode, time passes on all lots as it does in The Urbz: Sims in the City.
The Sims Bustin' Out for HandheldEdit
Time seems to function as it did in other The Sims games.
Time affects when the buildings can be entered, when Mini-games can be played, and where a Sim would be at. It is the first game to record the days that have passed, which was later added in The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval. Many areas in The Sims Bustin' Out change music between day and night though some areas such as the Jail and the Pizzeria don't change music between time periods.
The Urbz: Sims in the CityEditPS2, Xbox and GameCubeEdit
Time in The Urbz: Sims in the City is the same as the other The Sims games, except that time passes for the entire city regardless of which Urb the player is playing as. This was later seen in The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval.
As in The Sims and The Sims Bustin' Out, there are no weeks in The Urbz: Sims in the City.
Unlike other The Sims games, Urbz such as Scary Mary will never refuse if the player invites them after midnight but they will however if the player has a -40 relationship with that Urb.
Midnight parties always occur at 12:00 AM (0:00) and Villains will arrive at 1 PM (13:00).
Unlike The Sims for consoles and The Sims Bustin' Out, time cannot be controlled with the Pause and Fast buttons while playing in two-player mode.
GBA and DSEdit
Unlike the console versions of The Urbz, time is very important in these versions. Like Bustin' Out, it affects what mini-games can be played, what objectives can be completed and what area Urbz are at (Note: In the DS version, Urbz might be at a different area than in the GBA version). It uses a week-based system similar to The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories although this can only be seen from the Load/Save game screen. The default day and time is Monday 10:00 AM.
The game also keeps track of how many days has passed. A majority of areas in The Urbz: Sims in the City have different music at day and night though some areas such as the King Tower, Jail and Club Xizzle do not change music.
The Sims 2 and The Sims StoriesEdit
In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, time is now divided into seven-day weeks. This affects work and school schedules; students have weekends off, and Sims with jobs have scheduled days off. Bills are delivered every Tuesday and Thursday. The exceptions to this are The Sims 2: University (in collegesub-neighborhoods) and The Sims Castaway Stories.
When Sims first move onto a residential lot, the time will be 8:00 AM on Monday. When a household moves into a previously occupied home, the time will be 8:00 AM, but the day of the week may be what it was when the previous occupants moved out. If it is not, it will be Monday. If The Sims 2: Seasons is installed, it will be the last day of the first season of the neighborhood when Sims first move onto a residential lot. When a household moves out of a lot, the seasonal progression will stop, and will resume when a new household moves in.
As in The Sims, trying to invite Sims after midnight will always cause them to refuse regardless of relationship level. Also, time only passes on a residential lot when it is being played, and time on a Sim's home lot stops when he or she visits a community lot. Time continuity on community lots is only featured in the vacation community lots in The Sims 2: Bon Voyage. Time actually passes when Sims return to their home base lot from vacation community lots.
Much like The Sims, the player can speed up the clock in order to pass long stretches of time, and time will automatically speed up when there are no Sims on the lot or when all Sims are asleep. Speeding up time will also increase the speed and pitch of sound effects and the voices of Sims in-game, but will not affect sounds from the UI, TV, or stereo.
In college sub-neighborhoods, time on lots works much as it does in The Sims; there are no days of the week, and bills come every three days. However, there is an additional time scale; a playable Sim's time on campus is split into 8 72-hour semesters, plus a post-graduate period that can last up to 72 hours. The timer that keeps track of this does not stop when a Sim travels to a college community lot, although time on the Sim's home lot does stop. However, a Sim's semester timer will stop if he or she travels to a community lot outside the college sub-neighborhood. Also, a Sim's semester timer only runs while he or she is selectable; it does not run for young adult townies or for playable Sims who are visiting a lot.
In The Sims 2: Seasons, there are four seasons, each of which lasts five days. As with other aspects of time in The Sims 2, each residential lot has its own seasonal progression. It may be summer on one lot and winter on the lot next door.
In The Sims 2: Apartment Life, witches can freeze time by casting the Tempus Interruptusspell. Once it's casted, everyone on the lot except witches and their spectral cats will stop what they're doing and will react in terror and confusion to the phenomenon before freezing. Pets, toddlers and babies will pass out and all Servos will be powered down. Visitors, service NPCs, and vehicles will be unable to spawn and electrical appliances will not be usable. The spell will wear off after three hours or when a witch dispels it, after which everyone will return to normal. Servos will need to be powered back on manually, however.
In Castaway Stories, instead of the normal 12 or 24 hour clock, there are 8 orbs, with each one representing 3 hours. Daylight lasts 15 hours (5 orbs), while night lasts 9 hours (3 orbs).
The Sims 2 console gamesEdit
The Sims 2 console games are different from The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories. Most of them (Except Pets) are the same as The Urbz and The Sims.
The Sims 2Edit
Except for the PSP version, there are no weeks, as there are in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories. Time is similar to previous games, although this varies by version.
Console versionsEdit
Unlike the Windows version of the game, The Sims 2 on consoles has no week feature. Unlike The Urbz, but like The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, time only passes for the current family. However, in Story Mode, time passes on all lots.
The ability to control time in two-player mode, which was removed in The Urbz, is restored. While either player can pause the game, game time will only be sped up while both players are holding the appropriate control (R, RT or R1).
GBAEdit
The GBA version is same as The Urbz but since it uses episodes rather than being an open world as Bustin' Out and The Urbz did, Time is not the same between episodes. In most episodes, the time starts at 10:00 AM.
DSEdit
Like The Sims FreePlay, it uses the real time feature which runs off the DS clock. Unlike FreePlay, it does not use the week feature making this similar to its predecessor.
PSPEdit
Unlike the other versions of the game, the PSP version uses the week feature which is the first console game to truly use weeks.
The Sims 2 PetsEdit
Pets adds the week feature which was introduced in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories. This is also the first non-handheld console game to implement weeks.
As in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, time only passes on a residential lot when it is being played, and time on a Sim's home lot stops when he or she visits the Town Square.
The Sims 2 CastawayEdit
As in most console games based on The Sims 2, there are no weeks in Castaway. Whenever a Sim goes to a different area, a short amount of time, usually 15 minutes, will pass. Time is measured by where the sun or moon is in the sky on a small graphic found next to the Sim's icon. When it is daylight, the sun will be used and the background will be light blue. When it is nighttime, the moon will be used and the background will be dark blue. The sun/moon moves gradually across the mini-sky to show what point in the day it is.
The Sims 3 and The Sims MedievalEdit
In The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, time passes for the entire town. Similar to The Urbz: Sims in the City, all Sims in the world share the same time regardless of which household is being played. Bills are delivered every Monday and Thursday morning.
The Sims 3 introduces a fourth speed setting: 'Speed 4', which ultra-speeds through the current interaction and resumes at normal speed after the interaction is finished or cancelled. The Fast and Ultra speed settings are much slower than they were in previous games, causing annoyance for some players who dislike the long wait for their Sims to finish working or sleeping. Prior to the 1.2.7 patch, these speed settings ran even slower. Much like The Sims 2, sound effects increase in speed and pitch when the clock is sped up, although UI sounds will also have their pitched increased. This effect will persist if the player pauses the game or enters build or buy mode while on Fast or Ultra speed. Stereos and TVs continue to remain unaffected by the pitch change.
Whenever a game is started in The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, the first day is Sunday and it will be Week 1, Day 1. Furthermore, if The Sims 3: Seasons is installed, it will also be the first day of summer.
In World Adventures, week-based events (such as weekly payments from Professions, Weekly Book Earnings, etc.) won't occur while in Shang Simla, Champs Les Sims, and Al Simhara. Some events such as receiving free items will still occur. Birthdays and Work will not be missed so Workaholics will not be affected by holidays. Like in The Sims and The Sims 2, time will be paused in the main world while a Sim is on vacation[TS3:WA] or in university.[TS3:UL]
The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval keep track of days since the town was started. Mousing over the time will show how many days have passed since the town was started.
The Sims 3 for 3DSEdit
Time works like The Sims 3 but there is some differences. Time pauses at the home lot whenever a Sim goes to a Community Lot and this version does not record days.
The Sims 3 for iPhoneEdit
Time works as its PC counterpart but time only speeds up when the Sim is sleeping and cannot stop time. Ambitions added the ability to speed up and stop time.
The Sims 4Edit
In The Sims 4, time passes in all worlds. Like in The Sims 3, all Sims in every world share the same time regardless of which household is currently being played. Bills are delivered once per week.
Time functions similarly to previous games, with a few notable differences. For example, if there are no controllable Sims on the lot or if all Sims are asleep, time will pass at a very fast speed that is not available to the player under normal circumstances, rather than at Ultra speed.[confirmation needed] Like previous games, sounds will increase in speed and pitch when time is sped up, including music from stereos and images on television screens. These effects can be disabled in the game settings.
There is a known bug where returning to normal speed after switching to ultra speed causes the game's clock to go out of sync with the simulation.
Whenever a new household is started in a brand new save file, the first day is Sunday and the time starts at 8:00 AM.
The Sims FreePlayEdit
In The Sims FreePlay, time is not controllable (players can't speed up). Instead, the time in there is based on real time. For example, if the player's local is 9:00 AM, the time in the game will also be 9:00 AM. This also applies to days and weeks.
Time of dayEdit
In The Sims and The Sims 2 day will transition instantly into night without a visible sunset or sunrise. In The Sims 3 and The Sims 4, the times for sunset and sunrise vary between worlds.
